The Juynboll Foundation was established in June 2011, as the heir of Dutch Arabist Dr. Gautier Juynboll. The foundation aims to promote the study of Arabic and Islam within the Faculty of Humanities, by offering financial support to (young) scholars. The foundation does so by:
- Offering (complementary) grants to young PhD-students and scholars without extra incomes, to do research within the field of Arabic and Islam, particularly in the field of classical Arabic and classical Islam.
- Offering grants to young PhD-students and scholars to take part in study trips that are beneficial to their doctoral research.
- Supporting Leiden University to hire persons with special expertise to give education or to do research at Leiden University and/or the Special Collections at the Leiden University Libraries.
